 Farewell to South

From this building they say we are going

We will miss things that made us all smile

But we’ll take all the learning and laughter

That has brightened our trail for awhile

Come and sit by my side,‘ere you leave me

Do not hasten to bid me adieu

For it’s farewell to South Elementary

And the kids who have loved you so true

Well, it’s been here for almost a century

And we’ve been here for only six years

But we still love our school and its memories

We’ll remember for all of our years.

We will miss all our friends and the teachers

Who are leaving or moving away

They are all very kind and so caring

O how much we all wish they could stay.

I’ve been dreading this day for a long time

Of the good grades I never could get

I am scared of the difficult classes

And the teachers you cannot impress.

This new school where we’ll go is ginormous

There are new things wherever you look

And I hope that the teachers are friendly

Hope they won’t give us too many books.

Well, we think that the sports will be better

And we’ll find we have lots of new friends

When the fifth graders are all together

And our days here at South reach an end.

O there’s rust in the old drinking fountain

And the ceiling that lets in the rain

Moldy walls and the bumps in the floorboard

But we’re sad we won’t be here again.

For a school is much more than a building

It’s the students and teachers and staff

And it’s here that we all came together

To grow and to learn and to laugh.
